Sassa Urges Declined SRD Grant Applicants to Submit Appeals

Thursday, 14 November 2024 – The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) is calling on all declined Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant applicants to submit an appeal if they believe they qualify for the grant.

Eligible Applicants Encouraged to Appeal

Sassa encourages beneficiaries to familiarize themselves with the reasons why their SRD grant application may have been rejected, guiding the following steps to take.

Reasons for Rejection

Applicants must note that various reasons may cause application decline, including mismatched personal details with the Department of Home Affairs, income sources, existing social grants or support programs, bank verification failures, and duplicate identity numbers.

Simple Appeal Process

To appeal, applicants can follow these easy steps:

Check SASSA Grant Status

Visit the ITSAA website.

Enter your South African ID number.

Enter the cell phone number used during the application process.

Click “Send Pin” and wait for an SMS with a verification code.

Once you receive the pin, enter it and click “Submit.”

Select the month for which you are appealing.

Choose the reason for your appeal from the provided options.

Click “Submit” to complete the appeal process.

Common Reasons for Rejection

Income sources, including employment or income tax contributions, may lead to rejection.

Existing social grants, UIF payments, or financial aid from programs like NSFAS also result in rejection.

Bank verification failures due to incorrect or inconsistent banking information can prevent grant payment.

Duplicate identity numbers require resolution with Sassa.

Importance of Accurate Information

Sassa stresses the importance of providing accurate information to prevent SRD grant payment delays.

Avoid Delays by Avoiding Frequent Banking Detail Changes

Beneficiaries are reminded that frequent changes to banking details delay the approval process.
