What is the SRD R350 Grant?
In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the South African government introduced the SRD R350 grant to provide financial relief to citizens, refugees, or permanent residents.
This grant offers a monthly stipend of R350 for six months to support needy individuals.

To qualify for the SRD R350 grant, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Be above the age of 18
- Be unemployed
- Not receive any income
- Not receive any social grant
- Not receive any unemployment insurance benefit
- Not receive a stipend from the National Student Financial Aid Scheme
- Not be resident in a government-funded or subsidized institution
From my experience,
Before applying, ensure you have the following documents ready:
- Identity Number or Department of Home Permit
- Name and Surname as captured in the ID (and initials)
- Banking Details – Bank name and account number
- Contact Details – Cellphone Number
- Proof of Residential Address

SRD R350 Grant Payment and Support
Payments will be made through direct deposits into bank accounts or a money transfer to a mobile phone. For support, contact the SASSA Call Centre at 0800 60 10 11, available during working hours only.
From my personal experience, do this
- Only use WhatsApp, USSD, or email to apply; do not visit SASSA offices in person.
- Community workers will assist those without access to technology.
- Applications and payments are electronic; no paper applications or cash payments.
- Bank account details will only be requested after application approval.
